CertainTeed Siding

CertainTeed Corporation, the manufacturer of CertainTeed siding products, has approximately 7,000 employees and has its headquarters in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania. In its 70 locations throughout Canada and the United States, CertainTeed produces building materials which include vinyl and fiber cement siding, windows, trim, sheathing, roofing, fence, railing, deck, insulation, gypsum, ceilings, foundations, and piping products.

The company that later became CertainTeed, General Roofing Manufacturing Company, dates back to its founding in 1904. CertainTeed is now a wholly-owned subsidiary of Saint-Gobain, one of the largest companies in the world that manufactures a diverse range of products such as building materials, industrial ceramics, containers, reinforcements, abrasives, flat glass, and building materials. Saint-Gobain also owns Norandex, another manufacturer of exterior siding products.

CertainTeed siding products fall into two categories: vinyl siding/polymer shakes and fiber cement siding. Vinyl and polymer products are cost-effective and require no painting and very little maintenance. In the vinyl siding/polymer shakes product line, CertainTeed's Cedar Impressions and Northwoods brands are available in a variety of styles, including:

  • Perfection, with the look of hand-crafted cedar shingles;
  • Rough split, featuring a more random look of cedar shakes;
  • Half rounds, for a distinctive scalloped appearance;
  • Insulated, which feature a layer of rigid foam insulation to increase the siding's energy efficiency;
  • Clapboard, a classic siding look that is available is various sizes;
  • Dutch lap, with a cedar-like finish and long panels for fewer seams;
  • Board and Batten, which alternates narrow and wide vertical panels for a look favored by early settlers; and
  • Beaded, with its distinct shadow between the panel's face and the rounded bead for a traditional look of old-world charm.

The CertainTeed siding product's other line is manufactured from fiber cement, a material known for its light weight and versatility. In this product line, three styles are available:

  • Lap, a traditional horizontal siding;
  • Shapes, which include half rounds and shingles; and
  • Vertical, available in smooth, stucco, or cedar-look finishes.
